1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport equipped with the highly desirable Up-Country Suspension Package, factory tow package, upgraded cooling system, light package, power package, 5 factory alloy wheels, and more. I special-ordered this Cherokee from the factory in 1997 with nearly every available option.

This Jeep has been garage kept its entire life, hand waxed annually, meticulously maintained, and exceptionally well cared for. Aside from normal maintenance items, it remains remarkably original — including the paint, interior materials, and factory finishes. The seats have been covered since new, and the original upholstery underneath remains in outstanding condition.

As the photos show, the body and interior present beautifully for a nearly 30-year-old Cherokee. It does have a few minor dings, scratches, and small stains consistent with age and 272,000 “grandpa-driven” miles, but overall it is an incredibly clean and honest XJ. I’m happy to provide detailed photos of any specific area upon request.

Included with the sale are extensive records and original documentation, including:

• Original owner’s manual and glove box materials

• Maintenance records

This Cherokee would be ideal for an enthusiast or collector looking for an exceptionally original, rust-free, unmodified XJ with a beautiful body and interior. The 4.0L engine currently has low compression in cylinders 3 and 4, so while it still runs and drives, it is running rough and will likely need an engine rebuild or replacement in the near future.

The good news is that clean, unmolested XJs like this are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Install a rebuilt or crate motor, and this Jeep is ready for another 30 years of service.

I’ve considered rebuilding it myself and keeping it forever, but I would also love to see it go to someone who appreciates these classic Cherokees as much as I have.
